THE ILLUSION OF INCLUSION that’s the subtle game they play,

Even when we’re really losing they smile and say “it’s ok”.

Today’s buzz words are ‘diversity’ or ‘recognising difference’

They say “Now you’ve got equality”, we’ve given you permission

To join us in our churches, in our pubs and in our clubs,

Yet only a few years ago we couldn’t even sit with them on a bus!

400 years ago we were stripped, whipped and sold into slavery

Today we take OUR OWN clothes off and dance around like that on MTV.

Is THIS what our forefathers died for when they were holed up in those ships?

To watch us gyrate, curse and play the fool today, was it really all for THIS?

Because if it was, then was it really worth their sacrifice, their pain and agony?

Because we’re acting like we’re crazy, and still believing that we’re free.

We can’t possibly call this freedom, because our MINDS are still enslaved;

We’re still busy trying to be someone else, still wearing someone else’s name.

Imagine today Black people calling each other whores, my nigger, my dog

Remember not so long ago, they were calling us golly, sambo, coon and wog.

Now we seem to have become so self-hating, putting ourselves down at every chance,

Stopping ourselves from moving forward, making sure we don’t advance.

Now, we have to stop destroying our lives, remove all the madness from our minds;

Just remember when we were proud Kings and Queens, all the great things we’ve achieved.

Remember our mighty heritage, remove the delusion and the confusion,

Then perhaps we won’t find ourselves falling into the trap of THE ILLUSION OF INCLUSION.
