About Me

Haneefah Muhammad

Welcome to my Good For the Soul blog page.

My name is Haneefah and this blog is designed as a creative space to share my poetry and other ideas about ways to improve our lives. Exploring how we react to everyday situations is something that really interests me.  I especially hope my poetry and other featured artists will inspire, inform and empower you; in other words will be Good For The Soul!

Let me tell you a bit about myself.  My family is from Jamaica and I am the youngest of 3 children.  We lived in London where I also went to school. I have a large extended family dotted around in different places so we don’t meet up as often as we’d like to.  However, we’re all very close and will soon be getting together for my mum’s birthday.  She’ll be 96 (bless her!) and as always it will be lovely getting everyone together for a family celebration.

My Work

I’m a Social Worker in the mental health field.  It’s very rewarding work but also very challenging. I get to see people in situations where they show their most creative side or when they are in a more risky, vulnerable place.  I’m reminded every day about the fragility and also of the strength of our minds and our individual souls.  This daily experience is at the heart of my personal values of self-respect, compassion, wellbeing, empowerment and spirituality.

My Poetry

I have been writing poetry for about 20 years but until a couple of years ago, I kept them tucked away ‘for my eyes only’!  After seeing a good friend on stage at a poetry performance, I was inspired and wanted to try it myself.  Fast forward to now ….. I’m part of the Soul Food Poetry collective and have performed to audiences in Luton, Bedford, Brighton, London and at other public and private events. I love sharing my work and also get to practice my communication skills at a local speaking club.  The members give me feedback that helps me raise my game whether it be performing my poetry or in group or individual Life Coaching which is something else that I do and love.

Lastly (but by no means least-ly!!) my page will feature poets and artists with an empowering, gritty message that tunes right into my GOOD FOR THE SOUL aim – to inspire, inform and empower you.
